Riverfront Fashion Series 2010: Betsey Johnson, Gabriel Conroy, and Sue Wong rock the runway

July 24 2010–Fashion lovers from all over Colorado gathered at Riverfront Park on Friday to attend the highly anticipated summer fashion series featuring designs by Betsey Johnson, Gabriel Conroy and Sue Wong. Unlike previous years where several shows took place throughout June, July and August, this event was the sole event of its kind that Riverfront Park hosted. The fitting theme, “the one & only,” encompassed the unique elegance of the entire production, with Tobie Orr, the fashion show’s producer, giving each guest a night that they would be sure to remember.

It was plain to see how much time and effort was put into the gathering. Cocktails were courtesy of Svedka, Zaya, Casa Noble, Blackstone and Ravenswood, Shiner. To complement the assortment of adult beverages, Zengo, Table 6, and Lovely Confections served gourmet tapas, including signature sushi, barbecued pork paired with watermelon, and seasoned braised beef. The lilac decor was majestic, yet simple enough to provide a light and classy atmosphere. With tickets starting at only $60, the luxury of the evening was surely a steal.

When asked about the hardest piece of the show’s production, Tobie replied:

It takes a team and great partnerships from many talented people and amazing products, with an incredible staff and volunteers, so making sure all those components go well together and everyone is being able to showcase their talents. For me, making sure that they know and we know it was all worth every moment, and that comes from the great response, support and smiles on people’s faces.

With three separate fashion shows throughout the event, there certainly were smiles on each and every spectator. Betsey Johnson was first to rock the runway, with the fun and flirty designs that she is known for, paired with fresh and funky rocker influenced pieces. Strawberry shortcake would have been jealous of the full ruffled bottomed dresses, as well as the tapered and double bubble skirts that were a theme of the evening.

Colorado-based Gabriel Conroy showed his edgy style next with impeccably detailed garments, including a crowd-favorite, a dress that appeared to be made out of shredded newspaper. Hints of neon were apparent throughout, hinting to all that bright colors will remain hot even as the we approach the colder months.

Sue Wong closed with the finale, a collection of elegant and whimsical designs, reminiscent of the bourgeoisie of the 1920s. Feather headpieces and impeccable execution left the crowd feeling fashionably satisfied and excited for fall fashion.

Tobie Orr tells Courtni Vecchiarelli of Examiner.com, “My favorite look of the evening? Well it’s hard to decide – there were so many! But I loved the Sue Wong long white feather dress. It is a fantasy dress, and very romantic, but I probably would actually rock the black shorts and suspenders from Betsey.”

The Riverfront Fashion series didn’t fail to produce a mesmerizing night for the beautiful city of Denver, Colorado. With so many fresh fall looks debuted, the fashion show was definitely “the one & only” of its kind.
